How To Create A Vision Board And A Look At Mine

2023 is here! Where has the time gone? Since I graduated college in 2019 I feel like time has just moved on so much quicker.

2023 is going to be different. Better. The last couple of years haven’t been the best for a lot of us so we have to transform 2023 the way we want. No one can stop us! But let’s collect our thoughts in a vision board first.

What’s a Vision Board?

A vision board is a way to manifest your dreams. It’s a tangible board (or online board) that allows you to visualize your goals everyday of the year. You can add pictures, mantras, quotes, to represent a specific goal in mind.

When you have it all together, it’s best to place somewhere you can look at everyday. That way you can continue to see your progress and see where you need to make changes.

Throughout my school years they made me do vision boards but I never cared for it. I didn’t really believe that my goals would magically happen. Last year was my first year that I actually took it seriously.

I sat for a while, processing what it is that I wanted for my life. I glued on my big goals and then wrote down my actionable steps to make them happen. I taped it to my wall that was close to my bed. That way when I woke up, it would be the first thing I saw.

I accomplished a lot of the items on it. I learned that it wasn’t magic. It was just setting my intentions and taking actionable steps everyday, no matter how small. It also helped me get focused because without the structure of education I was lost.

Having a vision board as an adult helped me structure my life better. So this year I want to do it again!

What To Put On A Vision Board?

It’s easy for me to get overwhelmed so I like to break down my goals into categories.

  • Health - If your body is not the best it can be then how can you accomplish your goals? Do you want to eat healthier, workout more, drink more water? How can you incorporate some stretches into your day? Physically healthy will also support your mental health!

  • Personal - On your time off how do you spend it? Are you on your phone scrolling the whole time? Do you have hobbies or would like to try something new? Could your relationship with your family be better? Are you a good friend, spouse? Do you want love?

  • Mind / Spirit - Are you stressed or anxious? Do you have ways of coping if you do? What else can you do to fill your spirit with love and fulfillment?

  • Career - Do you feel good where you are at? Do you want to work on getting promoted? Do you want to take on an important project? Find a new job or go into a whole new industry? How will you get there?

  • Fun - Don’t forget to enjoy your time on this earth. It’s not all work. Go out and play!

Obviously, this is not extensive. You can use other categories or break these down deeper. Next year I might have different things I want to focus on. I just need to have a bit of a layout so I know I have everything covered for the year.

Look At Mine!

This time around I created mine digitally, on Canva. That way I can see it everyday all day as my phone wallpaper.

I’m showing you mine so you can see an example and maybe get some ideas. I got a lot going on so I’ll break it down for you…

  • Personal - I plan to make 3 new friends this year. It’s important for me to have a supportive tribe. As humans we need community. I want to move out by the end of 2023. I feel like having my own space will help me grow greatly. I’m also open to love because why not?

  • Health - My goal was always just to eat healthier but quitting bad things cold turkey is impossible. This year I want to take it slow. I’ll start off by drinking lemon water every morning when I wake up. I will additionally, swap one bad item for one healthy item. That seems like an easy start. I plan to workout or do restorative yoga three times a week minimum.

  • Mind / Spirit - I would love to volunteer somewhere on a regular basis. Many of my podcasts guests have inspired me to be of service. This might help me stop thinking about myself so much and focus on others. I also added a couple of affirmations on the board that are self explanatory. One of my other goals is to go back to therapy and continue to improve my communication, with myself and others.

  • Career - Last year I made big changes in my career and this year I plan to find a job I enjoy. I also don’t want to define myself by my job. I want to continue to work on podcasts on a more consistent basis and add blog posts to my website twice a month.

  • Fun - There's going to be a lot more fun in 2023! I want to go out more and support local businesses. Whether that is through attending events, shopping their stores, or sharing news. My big travel plans are to visit France and take a train to Switzerland! AAHHHH I get way too excited.

After making the vision board, I recommend sitting down with a notebook and writing all your goals out in a more specific way. Similar to the ones above but even more specific. Break them down. What do you have to do each month, day, and how long, how much? Make it quantitative.

Believe it and you will achieve it!
